Why companies should NOT ban Facebook

Jo Caudron Dear Media,
your world is subject to dramatic change. It started decades ago with multi-media, followed by the internet. Today we see the success of rich and social media, and the upcome of mobile. Each of these digital (r)evolutions challenged your business. Today, it might even threaten your survival.
Dear "friends of the media". Yes, all you companies that communicate with customers, to sell them products, to support them, to hire staff, to do everything you normally do. Much of your traditional communication rules no longer apply.
Dear advertisers, all the sales houses, all the creative agencies. When the media are changing, your business is changing.
In order to help you find a new balance between the certainties of traditional business and the opportunities of disruptive innovation, we have created a new company called Dear Media. We hope we can help you in these challenging times of change.
Sincerely,
Jo Caudron,
Founder Dear Media

Jo Caudron Today, I presented at the Fleet09 event in Brussels. The topic of my presentation was "The Media Are Broken, Can We Fix Them?".
The audience consisted mainly of people related to the Belgian Media landscape, both print, radio and TV. I only had 25 minutes (but I got 40) to highlight some of the reasons why traditional media are treathened and why they need to change. Interesting crowd, interesting discussion, very active on Twitter.
I have included the slides of my presentation as posted on Slideshare and for all you Twitter-geeks and others who like to re-live part of the event, I grabbed all #Fleet09 tagged tweets and put them in reversed order (most recent tweets at the bottom), so you can read them as some kind of weird 140 characters transcript of the event.

Jo Caudron Last week, the new site of Boek.be was launched. For those who do not know the organization: Boek.be is the umbrella grouping all publishers, bookstores and other parties related to books.

The site is developed by ONE Agency, based on a social strategy and concepts by Dear Media.
We are not writing this post to explain in detail what the site is all about and what you can do on it. We would invite to just start using it to discover how a site on books can be a real social experience. While doing so, please bear in mind that the site still needs some extra features to make it complete (it had to be launched before the Boekenbeurs so there was some time pressure here ;-).
So how did we come to suggest to Boek.be to create a social strategy around books? The answer is rather simple.
